We arrived at atoll de la surprise and anchored near the small island "Ile de la surprise" at 1700, just in time for sunset. Had a good sail the last 24 hours, but had to motorsail the last four hours to make enough speed to reach the anchorage before it got dark. Total distanse sailed from Port Vila was 315 nautical miles, average speed 5,5 knots. Am wondering who was so surprised of seeing the island and then gave it that name? This atoll is a part of "d'Entrecasteaux" reefs which is on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites due to its abundance of seabirds and turtles laying eggs here. Ant there is quite a lot of seabirds flying around us.
